Fall

"Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns."
~George Eliot

I love this time of year. I will be honest and say that I liked it more when we lived up north, but I guess you can't have it both ways.

One of the things I love about fall is the food. Hearty soups and stews, roasts, homemade bread all scream fall to me. Of course, when it is 90 degrees, the last thing you want is soup. Ah well...

I miss the crunching of leaves under your feet when you are trick or treating. Heck, I miss trick or treating. We live in the very back of a large apartment complex that is on a major highway. We don't get trick or treaters.

I miss driving down to Amish country to pick out our pumpkins at the pumpkin patch, get corn stalks from the Amish farmer and having donuts and cider. Fall always meant going to the all you can eat pancake and homemade sausage day at a small church in Amish country.

This year I decided that I am going to decorate for fall. When the boys were young we put out lots of scarecrows, brightly colored fall leaves and other decorations befitting a house full of kids. Now that they are older our decorations have matured as well.

Over the next few days I will try to get a few pictures up of some of the easy (trust me. I am lazy), cheap things I have done to make my house feel more fallish - while the air conditioning is still on and everyone is walking around in flip flops.
